Emergency alerts on mobile phones on at 3pm on 23 April

Posted on:

The test alert will be sent to most mobile phones across the UK at 3pm on Sunday 23 April.

Devices will make a distinct, siren-like sound for up to 10 seconds, including on phones switched to silent mode. Phones will also vibrate and display a message about the test. You can hear an example of what the test will look and sound like in the video.

Consider the impact on inpatient wards or vulnerable people

Ahead of the weekend, please prepare for the alert and consider the impact on yourself and our patients. If you think you might or your patients may be negatively impacted by the test, switch off your phone before 3pm. For example, domestic abuse charities are particularly concerned that the alert could give away secret phones people experiencing abuse may keep hidden.

It is possible to opt-out of this and future alerts. Search your settings for ‘emergency alerts’ and opt to turn off severe alerts and extreme alerts.
