Cornwall schools called on to support young cancer patients with Non-School Uniform Day

Posted on:

Schools across Cornwall are being encouraged to take part in Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity’s Non-School Uniform Day on Friday 25 September 2026, raising vital funds for the charity’s Children’s Cancer Unit Fund during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Pupils can come to school in their own clothes in exchange for a small donation, or schools can choose to host a fun sponsored activity or event to support the cause.

The annual fundraiser has become a popular fixture in schools across Cornwall, with last year’s event raising more than £15,000 to support children and young people receiving cancer treatment and care through Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

Funds raised help provide additional support, experiences and resources that go beyond clinical treatment, making a real difference to children and their families during some of the most challenging times of their lives.

Deborah Charles, Play Specialist at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, said:

“Your support truly makes a difference beyond treatment, helping create comfort, smiles and lasting memories for children and families facing cancer. Please support this year’s fundraiser to help us continue this vital work.”

Every pound raised helps ensure children receiving cancer care, and their families, can access additional support and opportunities that bring comfort, enjoyment and positive experiences throughout their treatment journey.

Recent purchases and support funded by the Children’s Cancer Unit Fund include Xboxes, TVs, forest day experiences, Eden Project ice skating trips for families, parent and carer refreshment vouchers, VR headsets, music therapy, sibling support, bereavement services, essential family items, and toys and activities that help make a child’s cancer journey a little easier.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity is now calling on schools across Cornwall to sign up and take part. Please register here.
