The Outpatient Transformation Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust are winners of the Digitising Patient Services category at the Health Technology News Awards 2022.

Claire Florey, said “We are delighted to have won this award, having already been nationally recognised for our progress and results. We have 4 key workstreams: advice and guidance, request management, remote consultations and patient initiated follow-up all underpinned by Patient Hub, the RCHT patient portal.

Our transformation journey has been made possible through high levels of engagement from our clinical specialty teams, and is data-driven. Together, we have been restructuring the outpatient model to modernise and standardise ways of working. Patient feedback has been incredibly positive, with patients telling us they feel listened to and have more control of their care. I’m incredibly proud of all of our people – from our clinicians, to our booking, reception and administration teams who have all come together to deliver change through some really challenging times.”

Helen Williams, said “Evaluation of the impact of the whole programme shows incredibly positive progress in changing the way we provide the outpatients service, from the effective triage of outpatient requests (referrals) at the start of the patient journey, to the number of patients who are now self-directing their follow-up management through patient initiated follow-ups. Patient feedback is routinely used to support and influence the workstreams; it is great to note that patients have sustainably reported positively regarding video consultation and PIFU. The changes have been made through collaborative teamwork, and my thanks go to everyone involved.”
