Making a difference to the people of Cornwall

200 miles of cycling in three days! Eleven intrepid, fantastic riders heartily embraced the enormous challenge of Pedal4Patients 2023 and cycled through our gorgeous Cornwall last weekend (we did tiptoe briefly into Devon with a Plymouth start) culminating in the glorious finale at Land’s End.

2023 saw another brilliant team of riders raising funds for RCHT Charity.  They plotted, planned, trained, ached, grunted and they laughed.  They fought – and won – some truly stinking hills and their resilience, stamina and fitness were challenged beyond expectation.

Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust Charity’s Lynne Lees said ‘the team have been incredible.  They’ve raised funds to benefit the people of Cornwall across our three hospitals and we all owe them a debt of gratitude.  They’ve pushed themselves to the limit, battling injury, self doubt and aching limbs to help make a difference.  I’m so very proud of them all’.

Pedal4Patients would not have been possible without the generosity and kindness of RCHT Charity’s great friends.

Dave, Timmo, Brian and Nick from Sustrans were, yet again, the perfect technical support crew with wise words, technical expertise and constant cheerleading.

Becky Philp and Liam Kelly from Fox Security were superb First Responders, carefully whizzing around behind the riders and making sure that everyone was in safe hands at all times.

Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust’s very own Tom Stiles and Tom Smith Walker were, yet again, the Pedal4Patients expert safety riders, bookending the team and ensuring everyone stayed safe and sound, that they remain en route and had fun!

Our generous sponsors Kier Construction were simply the best!  They manned the re-fuelling stops, provided good cheer and encouragement along with nutritious snacks and fluids.  We’re so grateful for their constant kindness and friendship and the team of Kier riders who joined us were fantastic.

A final word goes to RCHT Sustentation and to the Boathouse at Newquay.  Amie and the Boathouse team provided the riders with a superb feast on the Friday night and everyone was terribly well taken care of and boosted for the final day ahead. RCHT Sustenation yet again fed the riders for their last push before Land’s End with a fantastic, nutritious and delicious lunch.

Such riders, such energy, such kindness; making such a difference to the people of Cornwall.
