Mermaid Project enters its final phase of work

Posted on:

We’re just over 8 months into the 12-month programme to replace three mammography scanners with associated works within the Mermaid Centre, and we’re delighted to let you know that the second of the three scanners is now fully operational, much to staff and patients’ delight.

The new, technically enhanced, x-ray scanner from Siemens, combined with the newly refitted room, saw its first patient on 22nd June 2023. Already, patients are benefitting from increased comfort during the scanning process and staff are benefiting from enhanced image quality and highly accurate readings which will lead to better diagnostics and improved outcomes for patients.

Work has already begun to replace the third and final scanner which is due to be operational by the end of October. Other work being carried out as part of the project is the clearance of the large records store to create a new reporting room and a new viewing room and the installation of a new air handling unit.
