A great success for the first Orthopaedic Super Clinic

Waiting room at he newly launched Super Clinic

Colleagues from Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and Integrated Care Board have delivered our very first Orthopaedic Super Clinic.

On Saturday 24 February, 85 patients were able to consider what matters most to them in the management of their knee problem. As part of the day’s events, those attending were offered a consultation with the Orthopaedic team and left the consultation with a clear management plan in their hands.

Many of those attending had been on a waiting list for 12 months. As part of the clinic, some patients had a pain service consultation, and some who were listed for a surgical procedure discussed options available to receive treatment sooner at alternative providers. They were also able to find out what travel and accommodation support is on offer. In addition, a Health Hub was also in place, with community health services such as Healthy Cornwall able to talk to patients whilst waiting.

Feedback from patients on the day said the clinic had been a “wonderful experience” and provided an “excellent service”, enthusiastically praising the staff delivering the clinic. 45 patients left the Super Clinic having been listed for an operation; 18 of those choosing to have that procedure faster at independent sector providers within the southwest, and 31 completed their planned care pathway on the day.
