Huge congratulations to the Admiral Nurse team from Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) who have won two awards at the inaugural Dementia Care Awards, which celebrate outstanding practice in dementia services.

Strategic Lead Admiral Nurse Caroline Ellis picked up the Dementia Nurse Award, and alongside her team also won the Dementia Outreach Award for their Supporting Ahead Programme (SAP).

Caroline and her admiral nurse team, who work in partnership with Dementia UK and Cornwall Foundation NHS Trust, support carers and families of a person with dementia. They have developed the Supporting Ahead Programme, which helps families and carers to connect with dementia services and organisations as well as providing support to families at any point in the dementia pathway providing a holistic referral access point.

Caroline said: “I feel so honoured and delighted to have won the Dementia Nurse Award. It has been the most incredible experience being recognised for all the hard work I have done representing admiral nursing in Cornwall.

“I feel so proud of our team, the Integrated Admiral Nurse Service, for winning the Dementia Outreach Award for our Supporting Ahead Programme. I’m overjoyed that the spotlight is on our amazing admiral nurses and that Cornwall is being recognised as a hotbed for innovation.

“I can’t thank everyone who supports our team enough. I feel a huge sense of motivation and dedication to continue to get the best possible care and support for families and carers who look after people living with dementia.”

The Dementia Care Awards celebrate outstanding practice in dementia services. Winners were announced at an awards ceremony in London on Thursday 13 June.
